Dawn

I'll never forget the summer of 2013, when Hector was wrongly convicted of the most heinous crime: murder. Those who followed his case were convinced of his innocence and had even prepared a special celebration for him when the trial was done; no evidence other than a witness who admitted later to lying for his own deal and a guilty verdict. I was in shock. I spent the next several years hiring attorneys, researching the case, the system, reaching out to anyone who knows the criminal justice system for help. I applied to the Innocence Project, traveled several times a month to visit him in an effort to keep his spirits up, and talked to anyone who would listen about his case. While his family and friends wanted to support him, they had neither the tools nor resources to be an advocate. I was on my own.

I've known Tess Clark for years and had worked with her on some projects, so I had an awareness of her gifts. Tess was intrigued by Hector's story and had developed a fondness for him after several conversations, when she offered to help. For the fourteen months, Tess led a Zoom call with anyone who wished to join where we collectively envisioned Hector’s freedom and peace. She directed us through a variety of exercises where she encouraged us to see him free, view him surrounded in light and fully protected. Each week she would inquire as to what his greatest challenge was at that moment, and we would unite together, imagining this burden removed, and healing taking place. It's hard to capture in words what Tess did; it's definitely an experiential process. I can only say her voice, her presence, her spirit and insight changed the trajectory of his outcome. On July 19, 2022, Hector appeared in court before the judge who was considering the possibility of another trial. The judge stunned us all when he decided to set Hector free. No one had anticipated this, including his attorneys. All the praying, declaring, and setting of intentions led to that very moment where the impossible became possible.

I have since then come to realize the power of this process. Another friend, Jacob, was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer with a discouraging prognosis, and Tess led us through the same experience, with Jacob declared cancer free a year later. This works, this changes lives not only for those we focus on, but for everyone who is involved. If you have the opportunity to be a part of this process, I pray you give yourself the gift of possibilities. You may very well find yourself in the midst of a miracle.
